About EduPathWorks

Increasing the Number of Male Educators of Color in Education

THE PROBLEM

Black and Latino men in schools are often funneled into roles like lunch duty or discipline instead of leading instruction or shaping district strategy. In Las Vegas, despite a student population that is over 70% students of color, only 25% of teachers and 30% of administrators are Black and Latino, while they make up 60% of support staff. Even when they enter the field, many face slow, unsupported career paths and are praised for “culture” rather than given real opportunities for coaching, advancement, or leadership.

THE SOLUTION

Las Vegas has the opportunity to become a national hub for Black and Latino male educators. By investing in NFBLME Las Vegas, the city can build a full pipeline that recruits, trains, and advances local talent—from high school to the school district leadership level. This approach removes financial barriers, provides real-time coaching, and creates clear career pathways. Instead of relying on outside leaders, Las Vegas can grow its own—shaping schools led by the community, for the community.

Our Vision

"To create an end-to-end leadership pipeline for male educators of color in Las Vegas—from high school learners to senior education leaders—led by the Las Vegas community, for the Las Vegas community."

.

THE DREAM

Imagine Jalen, a sharp and empathetic 17-year-old from North Las Vegas who never knew that education leadership was even an option. Through EduPathWorks and UNLV’s Youth Rebel Start Academy, he’s exposed to a new pathway. Instead of simply shadowing teachers, he leads mentoring circles, tutors middle schoolers, and engages in culturally relevant academic enrichment. He’s developing real leadership skills — planning lessons, managing a room, finding his voice, and building identity and purpose.

Our Mission

EduPathWorks will engage 500 high school students annually in a dual-enrollment apprenticeship model, providing mentorship, paid internships, and early college credit — while planting the seed that leadership in education is a viable and respected path."
